DICK Johnson Racing executive chairman Ryan Story has shared the grade his team scores in an internal mid-season report card.
DJR is arguably in the midst of its best Supercars season of the post-Penske era, with Brodie Kostecki alone tallying six race wins already.
DJR’s last campaign with more than six race wins came in 2020.
“I would grade our year to date at probably a B+, and I think that’s probably a kind mark,” Story said via the latest episode of PG and The Doc.
“I’m a pretty harsh marker with these things… I think we have done pretty well but there is significant room for improvement.
“Sunday (of Perth) we had a shocker in that we had some issues with refuelling again, and different issues in the refuelling space to what we’ve seen before.
“We’ve got quite a bit of work to do there. There were three other teams in Perth alone who had issues with the churn.
“But where I’m somewhat forgiving is we’re bringing in place new structures and new processes for how we get our pit crew up to speed; the other side of it too is we have invested into people this year and there are a couple of guys who both work on the cars and work in the stops who had never been to a Supercars race before this year.
“What I judge that side of the organisation on, it’s the same baseline that I use for Rylan (Gray, rookie): are we improving? And the answer is yes.
“Don’t get me wrong, we’re not shying away that Sunday was a setback, but over the course of the year our pitstop times have improved significantly and we continue to make that forward progress.
“But there’s definite room for improvement.”
With teenager Gray still learning the ropes, DJR holds sixth in the teams’ championship despite Kostecki being fourth in the drivers’ points.
