It’s around 30km from the Sydney CBD and a million miles away from a happy hunting ground for visiting rugby teams.
Rat Park has become one of the most feared venues in club rugby since it became the home ground for Warringah in 1975 for good reason.
Last year it produced the Warringah first grade side which claimed the 2025 Shute Shield crown.
This year, coach 1st Colts coach Dave Thomas hopes it will see his side become only the second team to take a win off Randwick after Gordon beat them 50-40 in a round 13 upset.
The second-placed Rats will host the ladder-leading Galloping Greens – in what could be a preview of the 2026 grand final – from 12.30pm on Saturday.
And Rat Park has one of the most successful coaches in clubland across two seasons feeling a little uneasy.
“It’s a tough place to play,” said Jack Harrison, the young coach of Randwick who has done wonders with his charges since taking over.
“As a coach it’s the toughest away trip.
“The crowd are pretty hostile bunch.’’
Warringah also stack up as one of the toughest oppositions with a tough edge to their game.
“Warringah play such a tough brand of football. They are just tough to beat, especially there,” Harrison said.
Warringah has won eight of their nine home matches this season, suffering a 28–41 loss to Gordon at the ground back in round two in April.
They go into Saturday’s final match of the preliminary season unbeatable for second place on the ladder but off a shock two point loss last Saturday to Gordon, a team finding great late season form.
Randwick come in off a 73-7 win against the Two Blues after a shortened game following an injury to a Western Sydney player.
