THE latest Supercars debutant off the Tickford production line will have a valuable chance to get his eye in at Queensland Raceway a week before crunch time arrives at the Ipswich Super440.

It will be at the Repco Sprint Cup finale that Super2 sophomore Ben Gomersall picks up where Reuben Gooodall left off in Townsville in aboard the #5 Ford Mustang wildcard.

Before then, he will compete at QR this weekend as part of the TA2 Muscle Car Series.

Gomersall holds fourth in the TA2 standings, and will be part of a 20-car field (full entry list below) for what is Round 4 of the V8-powered category’s season.

Then it’s onto the big stage: the main game.

“Home round at QR, honestly I couldn’t think of a better place to do it. I have done heaps of laps there,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to it. To have most of the Super2 staff transfer over to the wildcard will be really good.”

Ranked an outside chance of popping up in silly season equations, Gomersall is determined to show what he can do in Gen3 machinery both at QR and The Bend, where he’ll team up with Campbell Logan.

“There’s a long way to go in the year still,” said Gomersall.

“We’ve only just ticked over halfway through the season, we have still got our enduro co-drive to come up.

“A lot of people are looking at your Gen3 performance as well, because that’s probably more indicative of how you’re actually going to go.

“Although Super2 is a great category and it’s very similar, getting that opportunity in a wildcard or a co-drive is really pivotal.”

Gomersall has three top-three finishes from six Super2 races this season.

TA2 track action at QR starts with a 45-minute practice hitout tomorrow from 8:40am.

No other driver who’ll partake in the Supercars component of the Ipswich Super440 is racing this weekend at QR.
