Wilson had been with the band for nearly 30 years
Slipknot has confirmed that Sid Wilson is no longer in the band. The metal group shared the news on its social media on Friday (Aug 14th), before removing the post within 15 minutes.
“Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the post read.
The official statement comes two weeks after it was reported that Wilson was fired. TMZ initially reported that the DJ and keyboardist was permanently removed from the band, although no reason was given.
Following the news, guitarist Jim Root shared a cryptic message on his socials after TMZ’s report, saying, “Don’t believe every thing you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information.”
The band’s reps still have not responded to our request for comment.
Wilson joined the band in 1998, completing the iconic nine-member lineup defined by their numbered masks. Alongside Wilson, this classic roster featured late drummer Joey Jordison, late bassist Paul Gray, percussionists/vocalists Chris Fehn and Shawn “Clown” Crahan, guitarists Jim Root and Mick Thomson, keyboardist/sampler Craig “133” Jones, and frontman Corey Taylor. The group released their self-titled debut album with Roadrunner Records in 1999.
Wilson chose his designation number of zero because he felt the number represented absolute filth and a clean slate when the band assigned numbers to members.
The band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 as a five-member group with Crahan, Gray, Jordison, percussionist Anders Colsefni, and lead guitarist Donnie Steele. That lineup recorded the rare demo Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.
