Moving to Baskonia from UCAM Murcia and set to return to the EuroLeague, Rodions Kurucs won’t be able to participate in FIBA EuroBasket 2025 with Latvia, playing at home in Riga.

As officially announced by the Latvian basketball federation, “Rodions Kurucs will not continue to prepare for the EuroBasket, as club representatives [Baskonia] have scheduled an operation for him to completely cure his injury.”

Following the team’s defeat to Greece in the Acropolis Tournament in Athens, preparing for the biggest event of the summer, Luca Banchi shared the heel injury news regarding the Latvian forward.

“Since the beginning of the preparation process, everything possible was done to help Rodions Kurucs recover from his injury, and this tournament was the last moment to decide on his participation in EuroBasket,” the Italian said.

“Unfortunately, his involvement with the national team this year has come to an end. Rodions is a special player, and his absence will have to be compensated with other qualities,” Banchi added.

On the road to FIBA EuroBasket 2025, Rodions Kurucs averaged 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the qualifying stage.
