65th over – Taskin carries on

Green pushes into the ground to deep backward point for a single.

Webster looks to work the ball to the leg side, where there is a fielder at square leg, so no run. Taskin is looking to angle the ball into the stumps from wide on the crease.

Webster pushes into the off side. No run.

He now pushes into the off side and they will take a single pretty comfortably. It was a no ball too.

Solid defence from Green as Taskin continues to push the ball down on that off stump line. Again, it’s been patient.

Green clips off his pads for a single to farm the strike.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:14amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:14am

64th over – Mehidy continues

Mehidy Miraz will look to work that rough outside off.

Green defends the first.

Then he does well to fend the ball away with a little bit of extra bounce in it away to deep point for a single.

INSIDE EDGE! Webster completely misjudges that and the turn carries the ball onto the inside edge.

BEATEN! Oh my! Webster sweeps, edges, then the ball deflects off the back leg too making a catch nigh on impossible for Das behind the stumps.

Webster back, defending a ball that turns into him.

And now he’s forward doing the same, Mehidy has found his pace to get the turn and bite out of that rough. Clever bowling.

63rd over – Taskin comes into the attack

Hasan was remarkably good and unlucky in his four over spell.

He comes in and pitches outside off and Webster defends.

There is still that floating second/third slip, as well as a gully, that I think should be a first slip.

Webster fends to gully, who gathers and picks up to shape to throw straight away in one movement, keeping that pressure up.

Webster defends.

Webster pushes to cover point and there’s no run.

More solid defence from Webster, who is looking to take his time to get moving here. He’s a great player to have come in at number seven.

FOUR! That’s a great way to get off the mark, a sumptuous drive through the covers all the way to the boundary. Well done Webster, that’s so well played.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:04amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:04am

62nd over – Mehidy carries on

Green pushes to cover, who takes it on the bounce.

Green defends on off stump.

The surface kicked up there a little, the slip and bat pad are in play with the ball starting to move and bite off the deck.

Green is back and clips to midwicket and they run a couple sharply. Those runs are important now, any run is important when you trail. Australia are still 45 behind.

Solid defence from Green to end another very good over from Mehidy.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:00amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 11:00am

61st over – Hasan carries on

Green pushes into the off side, he may want that single to get to his half ton but he is turned back, correctly.

Green fends to point and looks for a run there too but there’s no run.

Green pushes to point again, and again there is no run.

There is so much chat out there at the moment and there is so much pressure building on the Aussie pair.

CLOSE! Oh my goodness that ball has comes back a long way and missed the off stump by a fraction. There’s no bounce there either, because of the off cut that Hasan put on it.

CLOSE! Green cuts down on the ball and it bounces over the stumps! A charmed life being lived by Green!

FIFTY FOR GREEN!

He drives through the legs of Hasan and he is going to run three down to long off – a very good innings from Cameron Green. Oh how Australia needed that. How he needed that, his first half ton in his last 13 innings.

It’s his eighth Test fifty, and it’s come off 109 balls.

Wobbly, but still standing?

My optimism (borrowed from Simon) is feeling wobbly now….

60th over – Webster comes out to face the music

The deficit is 50 now, and Bangladesh are half way through the Australian batting line up.

Mehidy comes wide and tries to get Webster pushing forward. He does push forward but uses those enormous levers to get to the pitch and smother the little turn that’s there.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:55amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:55am

60th over – Mehidy carries on

Green clips away for a single into the covers and gets a single to move to 49.

A smattering of applause from the crowd.

Carey fends to cover.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:54amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:54am

High risk

Carey living dangerously there!

– Tanya

But it’s been the sensational bowling from Hasan that is doing the damage. Carey always likes to try and score runs and feel bat on ball. Hasan is allowing him that leeway.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:49amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:49am

59th over – Hasan carries on

Solid defence from Carey.

EDGED! FOUR! Oh goodness! Hasan is causing all sorts of problems here, and the luck is going with Australia. Carey edges hard past second slip.

(Getty Images)

Carey is really, really having to focus here, defending solidly into the offside as Hasan comes in once more. Bangladesh need to keep their cool as much as Carey does though, they can’t let those near misses rattle them.

Carey clips to mid on for no run.

And now he fends to mid off for no run to end another very, very good over.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:47amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:47am

58th over – Mehidy carries on

TURN! Oh Green is in trouble! Green is stunned by the turn that bites into him and comes so close to finding the inside edge. My word.

Green edges the next one away for a couple to move to 48 and bring the 50 partnership up, 51 off 120 balls.

Green defends solidly.

There’s that turn into Green there, the tall Western Australian getting back and blocking.

Australia playing with fire a little bit here.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:41amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:41am

57th over – Hasan carries on

Cam Green gets forward and plays the ball under his eyes, pushing into the covers for no run.

Good defence again from Green, but Hasan is just finding those areas that are making things difficult for Green. He can’t get the ball away easily and needs to stay patient. Hasan is not getting any assistance from the crease, either, it has to be said.

Nicely played, just guiding the ball late backward of point for a single.

EDGED! FOUR! Oh my goodness what a moment! Hasan finds the edge of Alex Carey, a thick edge that Litton Das can’t dive to grab. Das started moving to his right, then had to dive to his right and couldn’t get there. It’s poor technique from Das. The slip in place is at a wide second slip and had it been at first it was out.

BEATEN! Great follow up from Hasan, Carey enduring a nervous moment there.

Carey cuts nicely to point but there is no run.

Good over from Hasan, not given the support by his field.

High hopes

Morning Simon and Henry. I’ve woken up not such a grumpy old man today so I’m looking forward to watching some good resilient cricket from the experienced Aussies. Let’s hope they don’t make me eat my words.

– KB

It’s always good to start the day with positivity.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:39amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:39am

56th over – Mehidy comes into the attack

Just one over from the left arm spinner, we switch straight into the off spin of Mehidy.

Carey defends solidly first up, a slip and bat pad in place.

Solid stuff from Carey, nicely defended outside off.

Carey fends to mid on as Mehidy drifts a little bit to the leg side, just trying to squeeze and twist Carey.

Carey pushes into the off side, a slap to cover.

Too short and wide, Carey rocks back and cuts but misses finding the gap through cover.

Solid defence to a ball that’s on the stumps and that’s a maiden, Mehidy.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:34amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:34am

55th over – Hasam Mahmud comes into the attack

Now this, I like. He has been the pick of the seamers with his relentless line and length.

He starts around the wicket to Carey, who fends to the leg side.

There is a second slip and a gully, plus a catching cover. Carey fends off his stumps.

Oh, off the outside edge past backward point and they will run a single. Not convincing but not overly concerning if we’re honest.

Green defends a ball that’s right on the money, just probing that top of off stump area.

A subdued atmosphere, the birds squawking far louder than anyone in the stands.

Green drives with authority, a great tumbling stop at cover denies what was a very nice shot any runs.

Green defends the last.

Good over from Hasan, very, very good start.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:30amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:30am

54th over – Taijul Islam comes into the attack

I am not sure about this. I would perhaps have started with a seamer, given the liveliness of the pitch in the opening half hour or so over the first three days.

But they do start with the left arm spin.

There is a slip and a silly point in place and it’s a nice looping start from Taijul, with Green defending.

Solid push through the covers for a single to get off the mark there from Green. So important he starts well, moving to 44.

Carey clips off his pads to mid on for a single.

Green fends to point for no run. There is a bit of excitement there from the close fielders, unwarranted.

Green is back into his crease, and pushes a ball destined for the top of leg stump for a single. That was a good ball and encouraging from Taijul.

Carey clips to mid on for a single to end the over.

Not much, if anything, off the pitch there.

Sun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:29amSun 16 Aug 2026 at 10:29am

I don’t think this game is over, by the way(Getty Images)

There has been a lot of talk about how Australia is out of this Test.

I don’t think that’s true.

Australia are only 67 runs behind.

If they get a lead, even if it’s as low as 150 runs, they can really start to put the Bangladeshi batters under pressure on a pitch that may be still good to bat on.

What is crucial for Bangladesh is to take a wicket or two in the first hour.

If they don’t, then I think it is very much game on.

But you can essentially guarantee that final session will be extended an extra half hour, given a 90-over day of Test cricket is a thing of the past.
