Seiko continues its celebration of Japanese traditional arts with a new Presage Classic limited edition inspired by the art of Bonsai.
Developed in collaboration with creative collective TRADMAN’S BONSAI, the watch features a gold-toned steel case and a textured green dial inspired by the bark of pine trees and matsuba-iro, a traditional Japanese colour inspired by pine needles.
The Seiko Presage Classic Automatic Limited Edition Tradman’s Bonsai Limited Edition HCC009J is available for pre-order now, with retail availability starting September 2026, and is limited to 2,000 pieces.
If you are a fan of Seiko’s Presage line, you are likely very familiar with the various models the brand has produced that celebrate Japanese craftsmanship. Recent limited editions have featured traditional Japanese lacquering techniques, Japanese porcelain, and a partnership with Japanese footwear brand REGAL for sustainably sourced leather. With 2026 being Seiko’s 145th anniversary, it seems that the brand not only wants to celebrate its own milestone, but also celebrate broader Japanese culture. With this latest limited edition, Seiko celebrates the traditional art of bonsai by releasing the new Seiko Presage Classic Automatic Tradman’s Bonsai Limited Edition HCC009J.
Seiko collaborated with the creative collective TRADMAN’S BONSAI, a group that specialises in the design, production, and curation of bonsai spaces. Seiko’s collaboration with TRADMAN’S highlights the traditional Japanese art via the dial’s texture and colour. The dial features a texture meant to recall the bark of a pine tree, which develops its unique character over time. The dial colour is derived from matsuba-iro, a traditional colour in Japanese art meant to recall the hue of pine needles. Completing the dial are gold-toned hands, applied indices, and a printed outer minute track, meant to recall the glow of the moon. Covering the dial is a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside.
The case for the Seiko Presage Classic TRADMAN’s Bonsai Limited Edition measures 38mm in diameter, 43.8mm lug-to-lug, 12.9mm thick, and has a 20mm lug width. The stainless steel case is gold-toned with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, along with a coin-edge bezel, leaning into a dressier mid-century look. The HCC009J has a display case back, with model information and limited edition number around the perimeter. Despite its more formal appearance, the TRADMAN’S Bonsai Limited Edition is water-resistant to 100 meters.
Powering the Seiko Presage Classic Automatic Tradman’s Bonsai Limited Edition is the calibre 6R51. This in-house Seiko automatic movement features a stop-second function, hand-winding, 24 jewels, and a 72-hour power reserve. The 6R51 operates at 21,600 bph and is regulated to -15/+25 seconds per day.
The HCC009J comes with both a gold-plated 7-link stainless steel bracelet with a deployant clasp, and an additional leather strap embossed with the sanko-matsu pine needle motif, a traditional symbol of good fortune. The leather strap also comes with a gold-plated steel deployant buckle. The watch comes with a wood presentation box and a TRADMAN’S Bonsai branded polishing cloth.
