The road to the 2025 Rugby Women’s World Cup begins Aug. 22 in Sunderland, where top-ranked England will face the USA Eagles in the tournament’s opening match. The Red Roses, heavy favorites to lift the trophy on home soil, will kick off pool play at 2:30 p.m. ET at Stadium of Light.
Over three weeks, 16 teams will compete across four pools in stadiums across England. New Zealand’s Black Ferns and Canada headline the list of contenders aiming to challenge the hosts, while France, Ireland, and Australia look to push into the knockout rounds. Pool play runs through Sept. 7, with quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final to follow.
The opening weekend features Australia vs. Samoa, Scotland vs. Wales, Canada vs. Fiji, and France vs. Italy on Aug. 23, followed by Ireland, South Africa, and defending champions New Zealand in action Aug. 24. Key matches include England vs. Australia on Sept. 6 and New Zealand vs. Ireland on Sept. 7.
