ONE of the leading women in the Supercars pitlane has returned home to Tickford Racing mid-season.
After a six-month stint at the Blanchard Racing Team, Sarah Abuawad is back at Tickford.
Hailing from Iraqi-Palestinian heritage, the young gun formerly was Cam Waters’ number two mechanic before heading to BRT at the start of this year.
She popped up at the recent Perth Super440 as Tickford’s temporary crew chief, filling in for Cordell Muir, and will operate at the next two rounds (Ipswich Super440 and The Bend 500) as the number one on the team’s main game wildcard.
“I couldn’t be happier that she decided to come back to us,” Tickford team manager Matty Roberts told V8 Sleuth of Abuawad.
“It was a bit unfortunate at the end of the year when she did leave us, we were all a bit upset, but glad that she’s back.
“She has slotted back in beautifully in between the race team and subassembly. We’re just really enjoying having her back.
“She definitely has a future being a number one in motorsport, so we’d like to see her reach that goal and we’ll do what we can to help her do that.”
The #5 wildcard Mustang will be driven by Ben Gomersall at both the Ipswich Super440 and The Bend 500, with Campbell Logan coming aboard as co-driver for the latter.
