THE Australian Auto-Sport Alliance has copped yet another hit, with the national Formula Ford Championship becoming the latest category to defect.
Formula RX8 quit the AASA Race Series prior to last weekend’s Queensland Raceway round; then on Sunday, the TA2 Muscle Car Series, IRC Racing Series and Legend Cars Australia simultaneously announced their exits.
Now, Formula Ford has followed suit, having only been in its first season with AASA.
“The FFA has formally severed our agreement with AASA, effective immediately,” read a memo from category administrator Phil Marrinon.
“This decision was made in the best interest of the category and its competitors to ensure that we get the very best coverage available.
“We have secured a position for the 2026 Yokohama Formula Ford Championship at the Winton Hi-Tec Oils Super Series round 25-27 September.
“More rounds will be added to our calendar as we continue to discuss options with various promotors.”
The AASA Race Series had previously been known as the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series prior to a late-July split between the sanctioning body and sponsor.
The Hi-Tec Oils Super Series moniker is expected to be rebooted – likely in cooperation with Motorsport Australia – for the September 25-27 Winton fixture that AASA had shifted away from, with both Formula Ford and Formula RX8 committing to appearing there.
TA2, IRC and Legend Cars have yet to comment on how their seasons will pan out from here.
