THE Lennox Head Lions Club’s annual John Mitchell Charity Golf Day raised vital funds for two local organisations, with 27 teams taking part at Byron Bay Golf Club.
The four-person Ambrose tournament combined competition, novelty prizes and fundraising, with strong support from local businesses.
This year’s beneficiaries were the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Byron Bay’s Fletcher Street Cottage, with the Lions club aiming to raise more than $10,000.
Lions club event organiser Lyn Menchin said the day had been a great success.
“We would like to thank all of our sponsors, they certainly ensured a fantastic event,” Menchin said.
“Together with all our other sponsors on the day, these businesses help create a positive impact for our beneficiaries.”
The popular putting competition was followed by presentations, with the Altus team taking overall tournament honours.
The annual event commemorates John Mitchell, one of the founding members of the Lennox Head Lions Club, and its fundraising activities.
Mitchell started the charity golf day in 2011, with the event later renamed in his honour after his death.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service provides emergency rescue services across the region, while Fletcher Street Cottage supports people experiencing hardship through meals, emergency accommodation and other services.
The Lions club said continued backing from players, sponsors and the wider community was crucial to the event’s success.
