The category has reacted to the controversial fallout of losing its appeal against a stewards’ decision not to penalise Kai Allen in Perth.
Stewards acknowledged the breaches occurred but opted not to penalise due to a range of mitigating factors.
Supercars was incensed by that ruling and subsequently lost an appeal case, for which the full findings are yet to be released.
That verdict triggered Supercars and Motorsport Australia to investigate options for last-minute rule changes ahead of Ipswich.
Supercars has opted against changing any regulations, backing its current rulebook to stand.
However, it has told teams that if they breach the 16 psi minimum while on the grid, they can avoid being referred to stewards by pitting to change the offending tyre(s) at the end of the formation lap.
The non-compliant tyre(s) will then be impounded by Supercars.
Teams were informed of the policy during a representatives’ briefing at the circuit on Thursday evening.
Stewards noted in the initial Allen hearing that the team had taken a “reasonable action” by sending its car to the grid with tyre pressures at 16.32 psi.
They stressed that “by the time the low pressures were discovered, remedy was beyond the power of the team.”
Supercars rules prohibit any adjustment to tyre pressures while on the grid.
