Bruins and Oilers To Play 2027 NHL Global Series In Germany – Pro Hockey Rumors

The Bruins and Oilers are two teams that will play in Germany as part of the NHL Global Series for 2027, the league announced this morning.

For the first-time ever, Munich and Cologne will host regular-season games during the 2027-28 NHL season. The Bruins will play in the home city of newly acquired winger JJ Peterka, Munich, at SAP Garden and have assembled quite the group of Germans, including Lukas Reichel and the first-ever German NHL head coach in Marco Sturm. The Oilers will play two games in what is Leon Draisaitl’s native city of Cologne at Lanxess Arena.

Both teams’ opponents and game times are set to be announced during the 2026-27 NHL season.

These games will mark the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh NHL games played in Germany, with the first taking place on Oct. 8, 2011, when the Buffalo Sabres faced the Los Angeles Kings at O2 World in Berlin. This year, the 2026 NHL Global Series Germany will take place on December 18 and 20, 2026, at PSD Bank Dome, for two games between the Ottawa Senators and the Chicago Blackhawks.

The NHL will also have two games take place in Finland, where the Seattle Kraken and Carolina Hurricanes will play a pair of games in November on the 12th and the 14th, 2026, in Helsinki.

The Bruins played two regular-season games outside of North America before, splitting a two-game series against the Arizona Coyotes in October of 2010. Boston lost 5-2 in the first game and won 3-0 in the second. The Bruins also notably competed in the NHL’s China Games back in 2018, when they faced the Calgary Flames in two preseason games in Shenzhen and Beijing, China, and were in West Germany as part of a 23-game European exhibition tour with the New York Rangers, all the way back in 1959.

Edmonton’s gameplay outside of North America also saw its last gathering in 2018. The Oilers took on the New Jersey Devils in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of the league’s Global Series. Milan Lucic was notably a player who scored in multiple contests for both the Oilers in this lone game and for the Bruins back in 2010.
