When the Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew support for LIV this year, they had months to secure new investment for the 2027 season. But with one event to go in the LIV season, there still has been no official announcement on the tour’s future.
Because of this, many players are eyeing the exit door. The DP World Tour said they’re receiving more and more enquiries from LIV players about the prospect of playing on their tour next season. Bryson DeChambeau will play in DP World Tour events next year, and some reports say Jon Rahm is looking for a PGA Tour return.
But while LIV players may want to come back, the PGA Tour players may feel differently. They gave up millions to remain loyal to the PGA Tour, so some would consider it unfair if LIV players can return unpunished.
World number one Scottie Scheffler shared his thoughts on this before the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

LIV players returning to the PGA Tour is a controversial topic among players, but as far as Scheffler is concerned, he just wants to be competing against the best players in the world, regardless of the decisions they have made over the last few years.
Speaking before the BMW Championship, Scheffler said, “When we talk about the best players, you know, LIV has a few players that are really good.
“I think the depth that we have on our Tour is a bit unmatched, but I think when you look at the higher levels of LIV Golf there’s definitely some players that would provide a lot of value to the Tour, and guys that I love competing against as well.

“So I think going forward there obviously has to be, I think, some sort of penalties. What those are, I’ll let Rolapp and all those guys figure it out. We have great leadership within the Tour now.
“But I think having those guys come back and competing with whatever happens with LIV, whether those guys want to leave, I mean, you got to ask them.
“But I think for me being able to compete against the best players in the world there’s certainly some guys on that Tour that can compete out here and I look forward to the chance to compete with them more often.”
That’s easy enough for Scheffler to say. As the best player in the world, he’s made his fair share of money over the last few years on the PGA Tour, and certainly doesn’t have to worry about his spot being taken by returning LIV players in PGA Tour fields.
This is a conversation that must be had with players further down the order, whose decision not to join LIV has cost them millions, and whose future on the tour would be threatened by the return of the big names on LIV.
