Australia have suffered an extraordinary collapse in the final hours of day one after losing four wickets in just 15 minutes.
Bangladesh bowler Shoriful Islam equalled Mitchell Starc’s feat earlier in the day by claiming a six-for to throw the second Test wide open.
Starc ripped through Bangladesh in record-breaking fashion and Australia initially batted well.
But Steve Smith’s dismissal proved a turning point with the Aussies losing four wickets for three runs, in just 20 balls.
Alex Carey went first shortly after Cameron Green was dropped on the boundary.
It was then play time for Shoriful who bowled Beau Webster LBW for a golden duck.
Pat Cummins then fared slightly better, managing a whopping two balls before he fell to the same bowler, and another duck.
Shoriful did not stop there and minutes later he bowled Starc for one run.
The wicket was suited to the pair of swingers with Starc blowing away Bangladesh top order to pieces with five wickets in just 22 balls as Australia tore through the tourists.

Starc was bowling hand grenades as Bangladesh collapsed to be 6/35 at lunch in Mackay.
The carnage continued in the second session with Bangladesh crashing to 9/39 with Aussie captain Pat Cummins ripping through the lower order.
It left Bangladesh facing a historic embarrassment as they looked to limp beyond the country’s lowest ever Test score, which stands at 43, recorded against the West Indies in 2018.
Starc walked off the field to a standing ovation, finishing the innings with 6/12 from 10 overs.
Cummins won the toss and his bowlers made the most of early moisture on the wicket, determined to bounce back from a shock nine-wicket loss in the first Test at Darwin.
An irrepressible Starc was the destroyer in an incredible spell of swing and seam to bag 5-11 off nine overs.
At the break, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was unbeaten on 11 and Hasan Mahmud eight not out.
Australia made a stunning start when Starc removed Shadman Islam with the first ball of the day, tempting a leading edge that Cameron Green did well to hold in the gully.
It was the fourth time the veteran left-armer has got a wicket with the maiden ball of a Test — becoming the first player to do so — and the ninth time he has achieved the feat in the opening over.
The 36-year-old sent Bangladesh’s other opener Tanzid Hasan packing with the first ball of his second over, caught at slip by Beau Webster, then trapped captain Najmul Hossain Shanto lbw with his next delivery.
It left the visitors reeling at 3-9 in the third over.
The experienced Mushfiqur Rahim fended off Starc’s hat-trick ball, but he was unstoppable and grabbed his fourth wicket in his third over.
This time, Mominul Haque was the victim in a similar dismissal to Shadman, undone by late swing to send a thick edge low to Green in the gully on nine.
Webster dropped a sitter at third slip off Starc in his fourth over, but Litton Das’ luck ran out next ball, out lbw on review as the visitors slumped to 5-12.
It was the 19th time Starc has taken five wickets in an innings and achieved in just 22 balls — the sixth fastest of all-time.
His early spell left Aussie greats Allan Border, Brendon Julian and Michael Hussey stunned.
“What a star he is. Unbelievable signs from Australia and from Mitchell Starc,” Aussie great Julian said on Fox Cricket.
Aussie cult hero Kerry O’Keeffe also said on Fox Cricket: “Amazing here at Great Barrier Reef Arena. It’s like a zoo, isn’t it?
“There’s been four ducks, giraffes have caught three and there’s a Lyon at square leg.”
“And these poor old Tigers, they’ve been mauled,” Mark Waugh added.
Starc holds the record after taking five in only 15 balls in Jamaica against the West Indies in 2025.
Mushfiqur hung around for 41 balls but he had no answer when Cummins came on, clean bowled for five.
