Dogpile, the roguelike deckbuilder built entirely around smashing identical pups together to make bigger ones, is now out on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Studio Folly (Gubbins, Real Bird Fake Bird) and Toot Games (My Arms Are Longer Now) confirmed the launch on August 20, alongside publisher WINGS. The console release lands roughly eight months after the game first found an audience on PC.

How Dogpile’s Merge Loop Actually Works

Dogpile is a roguelike deck builder about merging cute dogs into bigger dogs, and when two of the same dog touch, they combine into a bigger one, with careful placement and clever purchases needed to build toward the biggest possible pack. It borrows its physical stacking logic from falling-block puzzlers, but layers a full deckbuilding structure on top.

Dogs arrive with quirks such as Barky, Sleepy, Timid or Cool, and players can visit a Dog Wash to add further traits or hunt down Dog Tags that build on trait synergies. A June update had already added roughly 100 tags along with several strange traits into the mix, well before the console versions shipped.

Switch and Switch 2 Editions Are Sold Separately

Anyone tempted to buy on one Nintendo console and hop to the other should know the versions don’t talk to each other. The Switch 2 and Switch versions are sold as separate purchases, and save data is not compatible between them.

Nintendo owners can pick the game up for $9.99, while the mobile release runs a free-to-try model with a one-time $7.99 unlock and no ads or subscriptions. Both the iOS and Android versions went live the same day as the Switch and Switch 2 editions.

From a December Steam Debut to a Full Content Update

Dogpile first launched on PC via Steam on December 10, 2025. Before the console ports arrived, the team pushed a substantial content pass to bring the experience up to speed for new platforms.

That mid-year update added 13 new dogs, two new traits in zoomy and stinky, seven additional languages, and a new challenge mode. The expanded roster and language support carried straight over into the Switch, Switch 2 and mobile builds.

The Dogfiles Companion Drops on Steam the Same Day

Launch day wasn’t limited to the game itself. Studio Folly also released THE DOGFILES on Steam, a companion collection of making-of and behind-the-scenes material including the unreleased soundtrack, original design concepts, colouring pages, screenshots of developer design discussions and early builds.

Studio Folly co-founder Darcy Smith framed the portable-first design as central to the project from the start. “From Dogpile’s conception we knew it was the perfect simple game to take on the go, after all dogs love to walk,” Smith said, adding, “Whether you’re in transit, globetrotting or just curled up on the couch we hope you love huckin’ dogs into the yard and making number, AND DOG, go up.”

The press announcement behind the launch itself carries a Melbourne dateline, placing Studio Folly’s home base in Australia, a detail that gives the release a direct tie to the local indie scene even as the game reaches a worldwide Switch and mobile audience simultaneously. For Australian and New Zealand players browsing the Switch eShop this week, that means a homegrown roguelike sits right alongside the bigger console releases of August.

Dogpile is available now on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, iOS and Android, with the Steam version still active and now paired with the free Dogfiles archive.
