Charles McHardie, the battle-seasoned head of Services Australia’s gargantuan IT estate, has been sent into the Reserve Bank of Australia to sharpen its delivery prowess and harden the nation’s financial systems. The move comes as infrastructure pressure mounts on the central bank to deliver on decade-long promised reforms and gird against cyber disruptions.

McHardie has been confirmed as the RBA’s new chief information officer, taking over from respected RBA veteran Stephen Smith, who has spent almost five years in the top tech job at the central bank following a seven-year stint at the RBA and more than 40 years as a technologist across banking, transport, and education.
