MMA fighter Mischka Laubscher made history this past weekend by competing in Africa’s first all-female Ultimate Dirty Boxing event.
The historic event took place at the Homecoming Centre in District Six on Friday night, with Laubscher headlining the card.
Not only did she headline the inaugural event, she also delivered a spectacular performance that reminded fight fans why she remains a force to be reckoned with once the bell rings.
Unlike traditional boxing, the event featured a unique ruleset, and fighters competed with smaller MMA-style gloves. The rules also allowed clinch work and elbows, adding another layer of intensity to the bouts. Laubscher faced Megan Brown in the main event and embraced the challenge as she made her long-awaited return to competitive action.
The event also raised funds for the Menstruation Foundation.
For Laubscher, the night was a sweet victory. After three years away from fighting due to injuries and questioning whether she still wanted to pursue a career in combat sports, the victory gave her a renewed sense of purpose.
Laubscher’s victory at the historic all-female event has reignited her passion for fighting
“It feels like I was reborn as a fighter. I was off for three years. I went into this stage where I didn’t know if fighting was for me. I was out with the injuries. I’m fixed, I’m here. Right now, I tasted blood. I feel like this is a restart of my career,” said Laubscher.
She reflected on her performance, saying the victory had rejuvenated her fighting spirit and erased the doubts she had about whether she still wanted to compete.
For Laubscher, having her team in her corner also played a major role in making her comeback a success.
“Fighting with my team behind me, this literally was it. My team was behind me every single step,” she added.
After proving herself under a new and demanding ruleset, Laubscher assured fight fans that Friday night marked her official comeback to combat sports.
And if her performance in District Six is anything to go by, it will not be long before the MMA fighter is back inside either the ring or MMA cage to take on yet another challenge.
