CIRCUMSTANCES have thrust Nick Percat and Andrew Edwards back into a driver/engineer relationship at today’s Queensland Raceway test day.
The duo spent the best part of four seasons together as a combination at Brad Jones Racing, achieving two pole positions, two wins and a further five podiums, before going their separate ways for 2022 (Edwards to Triple Eight and Percat to Walkinshaw Andretti United).
Edwards has thereafter engineered Shane van Gisbergen and Will Brown to championships.
The weekend’s Ipswich Super440 was the last event for ‘AE’ directly on Car #888, with Triple Eight promoting him to head of performance and David Cauchi taking the reins on Brown’s Mustang.

However, Edwards is filling in as Car #88 race engineer today, covering for regular Martin Short whose partner Bree is due to give birth any moment.
Short had been on standby across a race meeting that resulted in Broc Feeney snatching Repco Sprint Cup victory from the jaws of defeat.
Percat has joined Feeney on a two-year deal to co-drive in the enduros, and today’s situation gives the Bathurst 1000 winner a chance to reunite a little more closely with Edwards than expected.
Cauchi is on deck running the #888 of Brown and Scott Pye.
A total of 26 cars are on-track at QR in preparation for the Ryco Enduro Cup opener at The Bend on September 11-13.
