The first of two friendly games between Spain and Germany, taking place in Madrid, had the guests come out on top 106-105 in crazy OT fashion. The rematch is in two days in Cologne, Germany.
Dennis Schroder led Alex Mumbru against his national team, finishing with 24 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds in the reigning World champions’ fourth victory on the road to FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
Moreover, Franz Wagner added 19 points and 7 assists.
In front of Sergio Scariolo’s newest supporters in Madrid, Dario Brizuela had 20 points. Before the game, Sergio Llull was the protagonist of a ceremony following his retirement from the national team.
Germany will try to have a better outcome than in 2022, when it finished in third position. They will play their Group Phase in Tampere, facing Finland, Lithuania, Montenegro, Great Britain, and Sweden.
The reigning EuroBasket champions, with Sergio Scariolo’s coaching for one last time the Spanish national team, will play their Group Phase in Limassol, having to go up against co-hosts Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia.
