Jack Gunston is set to play on for a 17th AFL season.
Jack Gunston is set to play on for a 17th AFL season after putting pen to paper on a one-year contract extension.
The new deal comes amid a career-best year for the 33-year-old, with Gunston booting 60 goals from his 19 games this year to sit second in the Coleman Medal race.
Such has been Gunston’s extraordinary form, he currently ranks 2nd in the AFL for marks inside 50 per game (3.3), as well as 5th for score involvements per game (7.6).
Set to play his 280th career game this Sunday, the one-year extension will see the three-time premiership Hawk inch closer towards breaking through the 300-game milestone in 2026.
Having kicked the 8th-most goals of any other Hawk in history, Gunston’s CV includes a Peter Crimmins Medal (2018), All Australian blazer (2018), and three-times the club’s leading goalkicker.
Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said Gunston’s deal was greatly deserved.
“What Jack has been able to produce this season has been nothing short of amazing, it’s a real credit to him to be playing at such a high level at this phase of his career,” McKenzie said.
“While Jack’s year to date has arguably been one of his best, his influence at Hawthorn extends much further than game day – he’s the sort of leader that takes great pride in mentoring and guiding our young forwards to be the best version of themselves.
“With his obvious class, forward smarts and experience, we’re excited about what Jack can produce for us in the upcoming finals series and into 2026.”
