Golf will take over Moree Cup weekend on Saturday, September 5, when teams hit Moree Golf Club for the Vallad Advisors Charity Golf Day in support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
The afternoon will feature a four-person, nine-hole Ambrose with a 2.15pm shotgun start, giving members and non-members the chance to take part before the Moree Cup Calcutta begins at the golf club from 6pm.
Nominations are $25 per player and close on Sunday, August 30, with teams required to register through the Moree Pro Shop.
Heidi Heffernan said the golf day was designed as a relaxed afternoon fundraiser, with money raised through entry fees and competitions going to the rescue helicopter service.
The format is a mixed four-person Ambrose, with teams playing nine holes rather than a full 18-hole round.
Heidi said the shorter format meant teams could be finished by late afternoon before players and visitors moved into the clubhouse for the evening’s Calcutta.
The golf day forms the middle part of a three-day Moree Cup weekend which begins with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Charity Ball on Friday night and finishes with Moree Cup Race Day on Sunday.
Golf first, Calcutta to follow
The Moree Cup Calcutta will begin at Moree Golf Club from 6pm on Saturday, following the conclusion of the golf day.
The Calcutta is connected to the Moree Cup rather than being presented as part of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter golf fundraiser itself.
Heidi said the golf club provided a natural transition between the afternoon competition and the Calcutta, with players able to finish their round before heading upstairs for drinks and the evening event.
The Calcutta will lead into Sunday’s Agristorage & Logistics Moree Cup Race Day at Moree Racecourse.
