KUCHING (Aug 22): The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) hopes the newly launched workplace bullying guidelines for Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel will lead to clear reporting procedures and tangible improvements in workplace culture.

MMA president Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira described the guidelines as “the fruition of repeated calls to foster safe and respectful working environments for healthcare workers.”

“The well-being of healthcare workers must remain a priority, as it directly impacts the quality of care delivered to patients,” he said in a recent statement.

He stressed that closure must also be provided for previously reported cases to build confidence in the system.

“Complaints must be addressed urgently, transparently and fairly, and must bring closure for all affected,” he said, citing past cases raised by MMA including one in Sabah.

Moreover, he expressed confidence that with the new guidelines in place, such cases would be resolved more swiftly.

“And that this initiative will mark the beginning of a stronger, zero-tolerance culture against bullying in our healthcare services,” he added.

The media yesterday (Aug 21) reported on the launch of the Guidelines on the Management of Bullying in the Workplace for MOH personnel, officiated by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad at the ministry in Putrajaya.

According to MOH, the guidelines outline procedures for ministry staff and department heads on reporting and investigating complaints, as well as recognising bullying and addressing cases in a transparent, fair and effective manner.

They stated that the guidelines will be circulated to all Health Ministry facilities across the country, with the ministry set to monitor their implementation and impact.

The MOH also said that bullying complaints may be lodged through its MyHELP system, introduced in 2022, in addition to its integrity unit.
