And while the Englishman is definitely more easy going now than when he was playing competitively, he still pulls no punches when discussing hot topics in the game today.
So it should be no surprise that Nick Faldo has such a strong opinion on LIV Golf.

Faldo recently described LIV Golf as ‘a mess’ when asked to give his thoughts on the league.
And now he has offered some insight regarding what he has been hearing about LIV Golf’s future.
Faldo also took a swipe at Phil Mickelson in the process.
Nick Faldo reveals what he’s hearing about LIV Golf’s star players
Faldo has been speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast about the current situation that LIV Golf finds themselves in.
The Englishman explained how a lack of jeopardy on LIV Golf has cost the league dearly in the long run.
“I am hearing from the back of the range that more captains have said that they are done with their team,“ Faldo revealed.
“The bottom line is more players are wanting to leave LIV than wanting to come to LIV right now.
If they really think they can revamp to LIV 2.0, nothing will be the same. Prize money will be halved, no build out. It’s not going to be the same.
“How can anybody invest serious money? They were asking for $350 million, who has that to invest in something that is just not popular? I’m sorry, but the numbers just aren’t there.

“You are doing all that building and spending that and 100,000 people watch it on TV. It’s just not happening.
“I think the golfers have realised as well, that sport has to have consequences. There has to be some scare factor in sport.
“I have just been watching Nadal’s documentary and he says that there is no great champion unless they have overcome some difficulties.
“To me it’s like feel free, and that’s not sport. I have harped on about the cut, and how important that is. When you’re world number one and you’re outside the cut, you half feel embarrassed and you have to deal with your game not being on. So you have to try your you know what off, to make the cut. I have seen it and commented on it. The one I choose was Rahm fist pumping at LA on Friday 18th green, when he was 14 back at the time, because he made the cut. It was so important.
“You think that they couldn’t care less, but they really care about that. You want to compete because guess what, you still have a chance if you are there.
“LIV has completely missed [that]. It has been all take and no give. That’s my opinion.“
Nick Faldo takes dig at Phil Mickelson
The six-time major champion took a swipe at Phil Mickelson’s claim about LIV growing the game of golf worldwide.
“I get very frustrated when they throw out lines like growing the game of golf,“ Faldo exclaimed.
“Phil flew out to Hong Kong and said we are growing the game of golf for the juniors. I thought, sunshine, I was here 20 years ago with a golfer called Rory McIlroy and a girl called Yani Tseng.
“I’ve got 240 nippers here in the next two days, because we had 4,000 at my Faldo Futures. My series is 30 years old. That is growing the game of golf, not just bowling up in Hong Kong once.
“I get frustrated with all of that because it’s not championship golf. There’s just not that pressure of the fear of failure. Patrick Reed has done it the right way, he has come out and done enough to get himself back in.“
