Golf legend: Collins won 2 state titles, shot a 60

Salisbury High graduate Will Collins won individual 2A state golf championships in 2006 at Keith Hills, shooting 4-under 68 on the final day, and repeated in 2007 at Longleaf.
He’s the only male in Rowan County’s high school golf history to win two individual state titles.
Collins went on to play at the University of Virginia, competing for the Cavaliers from 2007-11.
His most remarkable college feat was bouncing back from an 11-over 83 on the first day of the 2009 ACC Championships to shoot a 6-under 66, one of his best collegiate rounds, on the second day.
In 2010, he was a lot more consistent and finished second in the ACC Championships. He was first team All-ACC that season.
He made several All-ACC Academic teams, while majoring in kinesiology.
Not long after he graduated, Collins shot a course-record 64 in the final round to win the Kenridge Invitational at Charlottesville’s Farmington Country Club.
Collins’ career round came in August 2011 in a U.S. Amateur qualifier near Harrisburg, Pa. Collins shot 60 to smash the course record by four shots. He shot 9-under 26 on the front side – 3-3-3-2-3-3-2-3-4.
Collins played on the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA’s Latin America Tour and the eGolf Tour. He played pro golf for eight years.
Collins will be on the Salisbury-Rowan Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2027.
