Not too long ago, South Australian filmmaker Anthony Frith made an adaptation of Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 1918 dinosaur novel, The Land That Time Forgot.
Which sounds pretty impressive, but he made it for z-grade specialists The Asylum, the modern-day skid row studio that gave us Sharknado.
However, Frith also made a documentary about the making of The Land That Time Forgot, and here it is.

What is Mockbuster about?
With self-effacing humour and a remarkably clear eye, Mockbuster shows how a desperate Frith, stuck making corporate videos to support his young family, cold-emailed The Asylum to see if he might find purchase there.
He quickly found himself helming The Land That Time Forgot – the first Asylum film shot in Australia – on a tiny budget, with a six-day schedule, and no room for error or ego.
What unfolds is a fascinating look at filmmaking at the shallow end of the pool – which, for all its budgetary and aesthetic limitations, is not short on heart.
The cast of Mockbuster
Anthony Frith, of course, along with The Asylum producer Brendan Petrizzo; The Asylum co-founder and CEO David Rimawi; The Asylum co-founder and president David Latt; The Asylum co-founder and COO Paul Bales; and actors Michael Pare, Michelle Bauer, Lauren Koopowitz, Eric Roberts, Eliza Roberts, and David Margetts.

Why we’re excited about Mockbuster
There’ve been plenty of incredible behind the scenes documentaries in the past – Eleanor Coppola’s Hearts of Darkness and Werner Herzog’s Burden of Dreams come immediately to mind.
However, we don’t often get such insight into low budget filmmaking. Often because there’s no money for it, ironically enough. This looks like a sterling effort to redress the balance, and a wild ride to boot.
