You’ve probably heard AI music. When you’re out at the shops, a restaurant or even home and the music is from a playlist someone picked at random, it’s likely an AI-generated song has infiltrated the mix. It will be a remix of a classic song with a new, uncredited voice, or a lo-fi instrumental that’s difficult to distinguish from so many others.
For now, you can usually tell by the too-clean tone and absence of vocal quirks. There’s still something that sounds not quite right about it. But as AI music takes up soundwaves previously reserved for human-written songs, the backlash is growing. It’s part of a wider war against artificial intelligence that is emerging on many different fronts.
