WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown’s No Kid Left Behind Basketball Camp celebrated the end of it’s first year Sunday.
A program that started with two kids learning basketball and continued to grow momentum over the summer ended it’s first year looking much different.
Nearly forty kids now enrolled in the program celebrated Sunday with food, back to school supplies, and awards for those who participated.
It all began with Andres Rivera, who formed the idea around three months ago and has stuck with it every Sunday at 2 p.m.
“I did not believe that it was going to be as big as it was,” said Rivera. “As you can see, I’ve got over 40 kids in there, including young adult men and women, so I thought it was a phenomenal day. The kids enjoyed it, and that was the goal.”
Rivera says he hopes to continue this next year, and that over the school year he’s working to have services set up at Eastbrook Apartments to help kids with their education.
