Now standing alone as the centerpiece of the franchise in the post-LeBron James chapter, the Slovenian superstar has gained early favor to win an important award next year.
In The Hoop Collective Podcast, ESPN writers Brian Windhorst and Tim MacMahon offered their vote for Doncic to win the scoring title of the forthcoming season. Their discussion can be watched below:
Luka Doncic strongly positioned to win 2026-27 NBA scoring title
Luka Doncic registered 33.5 points per game last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, topping the entire NBA in scoring average.
This marked the second time in three seasons that he led the league in scoring. He averaged an NBA-high 33.9 points for the Dallas Mavericks last 2024-25.
With LeBron James now gone as he fully assumes the Lakers’ leadership mantle along with Austin Reaves, Doncic is certainly up for a big-time season for the Lakers. Beyond another potential scoring title, he might even put his name in serious MVP talks, especially if he guides LA above the standings.
The Lakers haven’t celebrated an MVP winner from their franchise since the late great Kobe Bryant won it in 2007-08.
Now fully healthy after spending the entire offseason rehabbing from his hamstring issues, a season filled with possibilities awaits Doncic in the Lakers’ next NBA season.
