The first grandchild of Beatles icon John Legend and his polarising partner Yoko Ono has been born.
Sean Ono Lennon, who is also a musician, welcomed a baby boy with his long term partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old announced the exciting news on social media, with the caption: “@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!”
Sean is the only child of avant-garde artist Yoko Ono and late Beatles legend John Lennon.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Sean previously said he feels a great responsibility to be the “caretaker” of his mother and father’s legacy, which his mother has taken the role of through the decades.
He said he is “doing his best” to make sure his father’s work stands the test of time, adding that the rest of the “world” are also “custodians” of his legacy.
“But obviously the world is also the custodian of his legacy, I would say,” Sean said in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning
“I’m just doing my best to help make sure that the younger generation doesn’t forget about The Beatles and John and Yoko. That’s how I look at it,” he added.
“My parents gave me so much that I think it’s the least I can do to try and support their legacy in my lifetime.
“I feel like I just owe it to them. It’s a personal thing.”
John Lennon and Yoko Ono remain one of the most famous, creative, and controversial partnerships in music and art history.
They met in 1966 at the Indica Gallery in London, where Yoko Ono was preparing an avant-garde art exhibition and later married in 1969.
Their love story was tragically cut short when Lennon was shot and killed by a fan outside their apartment building, the Dakota, in New York City in 1980.
Sean was five years old at the time of his death.
Sean has remained extremely close with his mother, who is now 90 years old and lives full-time on a 600-acre farm near Franklin, New York.
The mother and son have collaborated musically, including when Sean co-produced Yoko’s album Between My Head and the Sky in 2009.
