The inaugural EuroLeague SuperCup in Abu Dhabi faces uncertainty and could be canceled just weeks before tip-off. At least two participating teams have raised safety concerns regarding regional conflict. Relocating the tournament is not considered an option.
The first-ever EuroLeague SuperCup is scheduled to tip off in 2 weeks in Abu Dhabi, UAE, but the event might eventually be canceled.
According to Harris Stavrou from Sport24, there’s doubt and concern about whether the SuperCup will take place.
EuroLeague SuperCup faces uncertainty
“I think there has been some discussion about the EuroLeague Super Cup in Abu Dhabi since yesterday or the day before. It seems that even though the EuroLeague has announced the tickets, participating teams, dates and matchups, and even sent out the link for media accreditation yesterday, there is some uncertainty at the moment,” Stavrou said during What’s going on show.
“The situation is a little unclear, and I think a final decision needs to be made,” he added. “In theory, the final decision was made when the contracts were signed, and the last signatures were put in place a few days ago. Or a week ago, when the tickets went on sale.”
Two teams have safety concerns
Stavrou noted that at least two of the participating teams have safety concerns in the Middle East region because of an ongoing conflict.
“There are definitely two teams that have reservations. Dubai, which has already started its preseason preparations, isn’t training there. They have gone to Turkey instead,” Stavrou noted. “So, it’s a situation that isn’t completely clear. We all thought that once the tickets, matchups, and the entire process had been announced by the EuroLeague, everything was moving forward.”

Stavrou also confirmed that relocating the tournament isn’t being considered.
“The Super Cup will not be moved somewhere else. If there is going to be any development, it would be for the event to be canceled,” he said.
EuroLeague SuperCup 2026 schedule
Olympiacos Piraeus, Fenerbahce Tarfin Istanbul, Real Madrid and Dubai Basketball will compete at Etihad Arena on Sept. 18-19, 2026, in a two-day tournament featuring some of the biggest names in European basketball.
The competition will follow a Final Four format. On Friday, Sept. 18, Olympiacos will take on Fenerbahce at 18:00 GST (16:00 CEST) while Dubai will face Real Madrid at 21:00 GST (19:00 CEST).
The tournament concludes on Saturday, Sept. 19, with the third-place game at 18:00 GST (16:00 CEST) followed by the first-ever final at 21:00 GST (19:00 CEST).
