The Yankees won their series against the Los Angeles Angels on the road during the week despite losing the opener. New York beat LA 7-3 in Game 2 and won the rubber match 6-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday. Cam Schlittler was great in the finale, but didn’t earn the win even though he gave up just one run on two hits in eight innings. But New York had only scored one run in the fourth inning on an RBI ground-rule double from Amed Rosario. Vaughn Grissom hit a solo shot in the seventh for Schlitter’s only blemish. That forced extra innings, where the Yankees were dominant. New York scored five runs in the top of the tenth on RBI singles from Austin Wells, Cody Bellinger, Vaughn Grisham, and Ben Rice. Moises Ballesteros hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning for the Angels, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

The Padres won their opener against the Cincinnati Reds, but they lost back-to-back games and dropped the series. That included the rubber match on Wednesday, which Cincy won 7-3. Rookie Juan Brito hit his first career homer, and JJ Bleday and Hector Rodriguez also homered for the Reds to fuel their win. Casey Mize dropped to 5-9 on the season after giving up four runs in four innings. Things started off great for the Padres, scoring the first three runs of the game on homers from Ty France and Fernando Tatis Jr., but the Reds immediately scored four in the second inning, with the go-ahead run coming on the Rodriguez homer. Cincinnati never looked back.
