Meghan Markle is open to burying the hatchet with Kate Middleton so long as she doesn’t have to “beg”, an insider has revealed.
The Duchess of Sussex, 45, and the Princess of Wales, 44, have long been rumoured to be estranged, particularly after Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, 41, shared a number of unflattering stories about the future Queen in sit-down interviews, Netflix TV projects, and the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare.
However, upon the Sussexes’ return to the UK, it has been alleged that Meghan wants to make amends with her sister-in-law, with one condition.
A well-placed source told the National Examiner that she would like to fix her relationship with the Princess of Wales, but “not if she has to beg”.
“Meghan isn’t going to grovel to anybody, least of all Kate,” the insider claims, adding that the Duchess has “very strong boundaries” to protect herself from the past repeating itself.
The Sussexes and Waleses became distanced when Harry and Meghan stepped back from their senior duties as working Royals in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, California.
However, their estrangement worsened when Harry and Meghan aired their dirty laundry in the years after Megxit.
In his 2023 biography Spare, Prince Harry detailed a physical altercation between him and his brother Prince William in 2019, which resulted in the Duke being knocked to the floor.
He also claimed that William pretended not to know him when they attended Eton College before dubbing the heir to the throne his “beloved brother and arch nemesis”.
During their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the Sussexes also alleged that Kate made Meghan cry in the lead-up to her wedding during an argument over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
Last week, the Duchess of Sussex touched down at Birmingham Airport along with her husband Prince Harry and their two kids Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five.
The family are sent to embark on a new life in the UK for an “extended period of time” after living in Montecito, California, for six years.
While not much is known of the Sussexes’ UK move, they are believed to be basing themselves in the Cotswolds and staying with a celebrity friend while they look for a more permanent home.
They have also enrolled both of their kids in a local school.
Their move came just weeks after the couple reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, which marked the first time the family had spent time with the Monarch in over four years.
