The Wild signed Marco Rossi to a contract that will pay the 23-year-old center $15 million over the next three seasons.

The deal was announced by the team Friday.

Rossi was a restricted free agent, giving the team an upper hand in contract negotiations.

His only option was to sign an offer sheet with another team, but Wild President of Hockey Operations Bill Guerin said earlier this summer he would match any offer.

Last season was Rossi’s best since the Wild drafted him in the first round, ninth overall, in 2020, as he posted career highs in goals (24), assists (36) and points (60) to finish second in scoring on the Wild as one of only three players to appear in every game.

But after playing on the first line during the regular season, Rossi was shifted to the fourth in the playoffs vs. Vegas where he scored twice and had an assist.

After the Wild were knocked out of the first round in six games, Rossi made it clear he believes he’s a top-six forward but said, “I don’t know. We’ll see,” when asked if he understood what his role next season would be.

The Wild and Rossi’s camp traded contract offers, with the Wild proposing short and long-term deals, but the stalemate persisted.
