EastEnders‘ Kim Fox is set to tie the knot next week, following a tumultuous engagement to Howie Danes. And true to form, the larger-than-life character is pulling out all the stops for her special day.

On the morning of the wedding, Kim gets all glammed up to say her vows at the Walford Community Centre. But despite it only being a short walk away, the bride decides to travel in style on a strapping white horse, adorned with flowers.

Appearing on The One Show, Tameka Empson (who plays Kim) praised her unique co-star during the wedding scenes, saying she “absolutely adored” the horse. A promo photo shared on Instagram saw Kim posing on the horse, referencing the cover art for Beyonce’s albums Act I: Renaissance and Act II: Cowboy Carter.

“Can I also say, that is not AI [in the photo]. That is a real horse. It’s so trained. Shoutout to Protos. Protos is my Spanish horse, I love him dearly,” Empson explained.

“You know there’s a thing called horse therapy? It’s a real thing. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a city girl, a concrete jungle kind of girl. But I absolutely adored my horse. The Americans have got BeyoncĂ©, I think the UK’s got Kim Fox. Put her on a horse, why not!”

When asked if she was still in contact with Protos, Empson joked: “Yeah, we’re still in touch now. I should say hi. He’s a big-time horse, he might have a little television.”

“I was side-saddling for hours,” she then shared of her filming experience. “The following day I was actually OK, there was no pain!”

Kim’s wedding comes amid a difficult time for the Fox family, as her sister Denise is currently battling acute myeloid leukaemia. Though it seems as if Denise will miss the special event, Howie has a little plan up his sleeve.

“Kim, she’s lost a limb with Denise being in hospital. It’s a great day for her, her family’s expanding, she’s got the love of her life – but she really does want Denise to be there,” said Empson.

“So Howie being Howie, he has this great idea to move the wedding to the hospital. The community centre’s all dressed up, everybody’s there. But as she walks down the aisle, it just doesn’t feel right. And that’s when we see the change of scenery where her sister can actually get involved.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
