The City of Perth is partnering with Tourism Western Australia to bring Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 to life across the city, as Perth prepares to welcome the world for the tournament’s opening match.
City of Perth Council this week endorsed almost $1 million in support for Tourism WA’s program, helping extend the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 experience beyond the stadium and into the heart of Perth through a city-wide Fan Festival.
Perth will host the opening match of the tournament on Friday, 1 October 2027, kicking off six weeks of world-class rugby and creating a major opportunity to showcase the city to visitors from across Australia and around the world.
A key part of the program will be a Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Fan Festival, delivered by Tourism WA with support from City of Perth. The festival will operate across at least 19 days throughout the tournament and is expected to attract thousands of fans into the city.
The City’s support will help create a vibrant city-wide experience, including a new ‘Last Mile’ experience connecting major transport hubs with the Fan Festival.
The City will also work with Tourism WA, Rugby World Cup Australia and local businesses to explore opportunities for fan hubs, hospitality experiences and other activations across the city.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 was a significant opportunity to showcase Perth on the world stage and deliver benefits for local businesses and the wider economy.
“Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 gives us an incredible opportunity to welcome the world to Perth and showcase our city as a vibrant, welcoming and world-class destination,” he said.
“Working closely with Tourism WA, we can create an experience that goes beyond the stadium and brings fans into the city to eat, shop, explore and enjoy everything Perth has to offer.
“This is exactly the kind of major event that supports our vision for Perth to be the events heart of Western Australia, while creating valuable opportunities for local businesses and driving activity across our city centre.”
Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 is one of the world’s biggest sporting events, with the 2023 tournament reaching more than 800 million people globally.
Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 will be held from 1 October to 13 November 2027.
