DYERSVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – Dyersville restaurants and businesses say the Field of Dreams keeps customers coming through the doors, and a string of special events this summer added even more business.
Tom Olberding, owner of Textile Brewing Company, said he cannot put a number on how much business the movie site brings in.
“I can’t say enough about the Field of Dreams. What they bring to me personally and our business is unbelievable,” Olberding said.
Special events this summer provided an additional boost. For Textile Brewing Company, RAGBRAI passing through town was an all-time high.
“We did a week’s worth of sales in one day. So that was great. I don’t know if that day will ever get beat,” Olberding said.
The Major League Baseball game this summer added even more sales for restaurants, including Chad’s Pizza.
Charlie Brake, owner of Chad’s Pizza, said business surged before and after the game.
“And then all of a sudden we just had a rush of people coming in because they wanted to eat before they went out to the game. And then we had a rush after the game because they all wanted to eat before they went home. And it was people pretty much from all over the area here but also around the surrounding states,” Brake said.
The three-day Velocity Festival concerts over Labor Day weekend have continued the flood of customers. A rain delay on Friday night brought even more people into Textile Brewing Company.
“They actually made everybody leave the premises and we got a huge rush around 7:30 that night. So that was nice, but both days have been really good,” Olberding said.
For Olberding the iconic quote “If you build it they will come” has become a reality.
“It would not be like it is without the Field of Dreams. I certainly thank my stars that they’re there,” Olberding said.
