SAINT WANTS OUT AGAIN

Rowan Marshall has told St Kilda he wants to be traded, with Geelong his preferred destination.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph reported on Monday night: “Rowan Marshall is keen to get to Geelong. Marshall has made that clear to St Kilda.

“The Dogs haven’t been in the race for him anyway but he isn’t their plan B if Tim English leaves. They are categoric that English is staying. He won’t be traded under any circumstances.”

AFL Media reports Marshall “is seeking a trade” and while he’s focused on Geelong, he has not nominated a club, with Essendon also showing interest.

Marshall, who’ll be 31 when the 2027 season begins, is keen to be a lead ruckman and was left disgruntled by the handling of St Kilda recruiting Tom De Koning – a higher-paid player at the same position without Marshall’s resume as a No.1 ruck.

The Cats are also trying to trade for Zak Butters – with Port Adelaide matching a bid for the restricted free agent viewed as a formality – and to sign Toby Greene.

CLUB FAVOURITE TOLD DEES WANT TO TRADE HIM IN ‘ROBUST’ EXIT MEETING

Melbourne has told contracted 238-game champion Jack Viney to explore his options for next season.

The 32-year-old was told at his exit meeting he would have limited opportunities in 2027 as Steven King and his coaching staff focus on youth, as reported by the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark.

Viney is reportedly disappointed by the decision having battled serious injuries in his Achilles, back and toe to get back for the wildcard final loss to Carlton, his lone game for the year.

He is contracted for another two seasons on more than $700,000 a year, having considered his future back in 2024 when he won the club’s best and fairest for a second time.

Viney eventually chose to re-sign at Melbourne rather than moving to North Melbourne – where his dad Todd is the head of footy.

The Demons are looking to be active in the trade period with Hawthorn’s Calsher Dear and North Melbourne’s Zane Duursma among those on their radar and moving Viney would free up cap space.

They could pay part of his salary to get him to another club.

Essendon will reportedly consider whether to make a move for the midfielder.

‘HASN’T SPOKEN A WORD’: INTRIGUE GROWS OVER SCRUTINISED SWAN’S FUTURE

Sydney’s General Manager of Football Leon Cameron has knocked back suggestions that suspended star Nick Blakey is seeking a move away from the club.

The 26-year-old is currently one of five Swans who aren’t being considered at selection for the remainder of the 2026 season, after breaching club standards last month after their Round 23 win over Essendon in Melbourne.

The Age’s Sam McClure reported last week that Blakey has a desire to leave the Swans follows “a deterioration in his relationship with the club”, following the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark last month revealing he could be courted by as many as eight Victorian clubs.

However, speaking on 3AW, Cameron says he has been given no indication Blakey wants to depart the club.

“Nick hasn’t spoken a word of this,” Cameron said.

“There’s always going to be speculation when clubs are going through a crisis like we’ve gone through in the last two and a half weeks.

“But, it’s all speculation. Nick’s contracted, and so are all the other guys as well.

“We’ll work through what everything looks like when our season finishes, but I don’t get tied up in that too much.”

Riley Bice, one of the five Swans stood down, was cleared last week of any criminal conduct as Victoria Police continue their investigation into an alleged sexual assault in East Melbourne on August 17.

BIGGEST HINT YET WHERE DELISTED STAR COULD LAND

Delisted GWS star Jesse Hogan has reportedly passed his medical test at Collingwood, as the 31-year-old eyes off joining a fourth AFL club.

Nine’s Owen Leonard reported on Sunday evening that there is growing confidence the 2024 Coleman Medallist will be wearing black and white next season, after undergoing a routine examination in recent times.

“He’s passed a medical test at Collingwood, and there’s confidence at the Magpies that he wants to join them” Leonard said.

“They’re not the only club linked with him — he’ll ramp up talks (with other clubs) in the coming days — but certainly the Pies have certainly made progress in the race to become his fourth team.

Hogan, who has previously played at Melbourne, Fremantle and the Giants, is understood to have interest from Carlton and Gold Coast in addition to Collingwood. Geelong has been previously linked to the 190-gamer, though no longer look to have serious interest.

Fox Footy reporter Jon Ralph echoed the belief internally at Collingwood on X, noting that Hogan is still yet to come to a definitive decision.

Leonard also reports that dual Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale has also passed his medical at the club, with his move to Collingwood now considered a fait accompli, also as an unrestricted free agent.
