Bringing together 16 of the best wheelchair basketball teams on the planet, the men’s tournament at the Ottawa 2026 IWBF World Championships begins with a group stage featuring four groups of four teams.
The teams will face each other from 9 to 13 September, with the results determining the crossovers for the Round of 16.
After meeting the teams in Group A, it is time to take a closer look at Group B, featuring Australia, Great Britain, Türkiye and Argentina.
Group BAustralia
Two-time world champions Australia remain one of the traditional powerhouses of wheelchair basketball. The Australian Rollers reached the semi-finals in six consecutive editions before finishing seventh at the 2022 World Championships. In Ottawa, they will be determined to re-establish themselves among the leading contenders.

Australia arrive in Ottawa as champions of the 2025 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Their continental title secured one of the region’s two direct qualification places for the World Championships.
Player to watch
At only 21 years old, Jaylen Brown is already emerging as one of the most exciting young players on the world stage. The class 4.0 athlete was named MVP of the 2025 IWBF Asia Oceania Championships after averaging an impressive 21.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
Also in 2025, Brown helped Australia finish fourth at the IWBF Men’s U23 World Championship. He was named the tournament’s All Star 4.0/4.5 player and finished as its leading scorer, averaging 22.3 points per game.
Great Britain
The reigning world and European silver medallists, Great Britain head to Ottawa as one of the strongest contenders for the title.
After becoming world champions in Hamburg in 2018, Great Britain came within a single point of defending their crown, losing to the United States in the Dubai 2022 final. They will now be aiming to go one step further and return to the top of the podium.

The runner-up finish at the 2025 European Championship – Division A, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia, secured Great Britain one of the five direct spots from the continent for the Ottawa 2026 IWBF World Championships.
Player to watch
One of the leading class 2.0 players in the world, 29-year-old Gregg Warburton is a key figure in the Great Britain team.
Warburton played a central role in Great Britain’s recent World Championship successes. He was the standout name in the recent strong showings of the British at World Championships, being MVP of the tournament in the 2018 title-winning campaign, and also selected for the competition’s all-star team during the runner-up finish in 2022.
Türkiye
With one of the strongest domestic leagues today, Turkiye are a resurgent force in Europe and return to the Wheelchair Basketball World Championships after being absent from the 2022 edition. Turkiya have been frequent podium finishers in the Europeans in the past decade, including a title in 2017, and at World level their best result is a third place achieved in Icheon 2014.

To reach the Ottawa 2026 IWBF World Championships, Turkiye secured their spot thanks to a fifth-place finish at the 2025 European Championship – Division A, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia. With that result, they claimed the last of the five direct spots from the European continent for the World Championships.

Fresh from being named MVP of the EuroCup 1 Finals after helping Fenerbahçe lift the title in April, Uğur Toprak is one of the players to watch in the Türkiye squad.
The 34-year-old class 3.0 athlete has represented the national team for more than a decade and remains an influential performer. In 2025, he was also selected for the All-Star Five at the European Championship Division A.
Argentina
Among the main South American squads, Argentina arrives in Ottawa to compete in their fifth Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, their fourth in a row. Their best result so far is seventh place, achieved in Hamburg 2018. With an experienced squad and their key players featuring for European clubs, the Argentines emerge as candidates to surprise on Canadian soil.

At Tthe 2025 IWBF Men’s Americas Cup, Argentina had a near-perfect campaign, being defeated only in the final by the United States. The continental runner-up finish secured a direct spot for the Ottawa 2026 World Championships.
Player to watch
Veteran Adrián Pérez was a fundamental part of Argentina’s offence during their silver-medal campaign at the 2025 Americas Cup.
The class 3.0 player averaged 20.2 points per game, making him the competition’s fourth-highest scorer, while also contributing 9.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists. At club level, Pérez represents Spain’s BSR Valladolid, who competed in the EuroCup 1 in 2026.
