The National Academy of Design has elected 12 artists and architects from across the United States as National Academicians in the Class of 2026. The individuals were chosen for their “extraordinary contributions to contemporary American art and architecture.”
The annual process for electing National Academicians dates back to 1825, when the National Academy was founded as the first artist- and architect-led organization in the United States. To date, 450+ artists and architects have been elected to the community.
“We are thrilled to welcome these twelve artists and architects as members of the National Academy of Design,” said Gregory Wessner, Executive Director of the National Academy of Design. “Each year, the election of new National Academicians reflects the breadth and diversity of cultural practice in America. As the first class of Academicians to be inducted in our third century, the Class of 2026 beautifully reflects the energy and promise of the Academy’s future.”
The twelve individuals are:
