Breakout star Inde Navarrette says memories of Southern women she knew while growing up in Corpus Christi are influencing her take on the iconic Marvel character.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Inde Navarrette is bringing a little Corpus Christi inspiration to her role as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming live-action “X-Men” film.

Following her breakout performance in “Obsession,” Inde Navarrette was cast as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming live-action “X-Men” film.

When asked about her approach to Rogue’s iconic Southern accent, Navarrette said women she knew while growing up in Corpus Christi have served as an inspiration.

“I’ve never told this publicly,” Navarrette said. “I have a divorced family, so I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life. So, those Southern women are really my favorite. Corpus Christi is the city specifically. I just remember the old Southern women that I really, really love.”

Navarrette said she also wants to visit Mississippi, Rogue’s home state, to study the accent.

“But specifically Mississippi, Rogue is from Mississippi, and I really want to go there,” Navarrette said. “I really want to do her justice.”

The X-Men will make their Marvel Studios debut on May 5, 2028. The film will introduce a new generation of mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Navarrette taking on a role previously played by Anna Paquin in four films produced by Fox. The Associated Press reports the cast also includes Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Sadie Sink reprising her role from Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Jean Grey.
