Victorian Liberal leader Jess Wilson is working hard to add an everyman flavour to her inner-east suburbs’ reputation ahead of November’s state election. On Friday, this involved draping herself in a Magpies scarf on TV to preach her birthright devotion to the traditionally working-class Collingwood.
Wilson was born on Anzac Day 1990 at the Mercy Hospital, she said, just a drop punt from Collingwood’s home ground at the MCG. Such is the commitment of her dad, former Liberal MP Ron Wilson, to the club, that he even headed down to the hallowed turf within hours of her birth!
