Audi is dramatically repositioning its electric vehicle range in Australia, slashing more than $21,000 from the price of the SQ6 e-tron and almost $10,000 from the regular Q6 e-tron just weeks after announcing similarly savage cuts for its smaller Q4 e-tron.

The latest move means Audi’s two mainstream electric SUV model lines will enter 2027 with substantially lower prices, revised model ranges and more standard equipment as the German luxury brand attempts to make its EVs more competitive in Australia’s increasingly cut-throat electric car market.

Due to arrive in the first half of 2027, the updated MY27 Q6 e-tron will be priced from $89,900 before on-road costs in both conventional SUV and sleeker Sportback body styles.

That’s a $9918 saving compared with the current $99,818 Q6 e-tron, with the Sportback receiving the same reduction.

The performance SQ6 e-tron gets an even more substantial price cut, dropping $21,418 from $151,318 to $129,900 before on-road costs. The SQ6 Sportback falls by an identical $21,418, from $156,318 to $134,900.

The Q6 price cuts follow Audi’s August announcement of an extensively overhauled MY27 Q4 e-tron range, which will also arrive in the first half of 2027.

That reset dropped the Q4 e-tron’s starting price to $71,650 before on-road costs, $13,250 below the outgoing Q4 45 e-tron SUV.

The new Q4 e-tron quattro SUV was even more aggressively repositioned at $81,650, representing an $18,168 saving compared with the run-out Q4 55 e-tron quattro.

Taken together, the changes represent a major repositioning of Audi’s Australian EV line-up heading into 2027.

They also bring the Q4 and Q6 closer together on price, with only $8250 separating the $81,650 Q4 e-tron quattro SUV from the larger $89,900 Q6 e-tron.

Audi has made no secret of the importance of government incentives to the new pricing strategy.

The company says the revised Q6 prices have been structured to allow eligible customers to benefit from higher Luxury Car Tax thresholds and government EV incentives.

But the cheaper Q6 prices are also accompanied by a significant rationalisation of the Australian range.

Audi’s MY27 announcement lists only four models – Q6 SUV, Q6 Sportback, SQ6 SUV and SQ6 Sportback – with no replacements announced for the current Q6 e-tron performance, Q6 e-tron quattro and Q6 Sportback e-tron quattro.

That means the current rear-wheel drive performance model, which combines the larger 100kWh battery with a single electric motor and offers the longest driving range in the Australian Q6 line-up, appears set to disappear.

The mid-range quattro models, which combine the larger battery with dual-motor all-wheel drive, are also absent from the MY27 range announced so far.

That leaves a substantial $40,000 gap between the $89,900 rear-drive Q6 e-tron and $129,900 SQ6 e-tron.

It also means that, based on the MY27 range Audi has announced, buyers wanting the larger 100kWh battery will have to step all the way up to the SQ6.

The new entry Q6 e-tron sticks with the existing 83kWh gross/75.8kWh usable lithium-ion battery and a single electric motor driving the rear wheels.

It produces 185kW and 450Nm, with power increasing to 215kW when launch control is activated.

Audi claims 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds, dropping to 7.0sec with launch control.

Its 800-volt electrical architecture allows DC charging at up to 225kW, with a 10-80 per cent recharge taking just over 20 minutes under suitable conditions. Audi says as much as 250km of additional driving range can be added in 10 minutes. Audi has yet to announce MY27 driving range figures.

The lower price doesn’t come at the expense of standard equipment. The MY27 Q6 e-tron gains 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, replacing the current 19-inch wheels, while metallic paint and a panoramic glass sunroof also become standard.

SUV versions add black roof rails, while an electric tailgate includes programmable opening height and gesture control.

Inside, there are leather-appointed sports seats, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, four-way lumbar adjustment, driver memory and three-zone climate control.

Audi’s digital dashboard combines an 11.9-inch OLED instrument display with a 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen and a separate 10.9-inch display for the front passenger.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a 10-speaker audio system, 360-degree cameras, park assist and a front dashcam are also standard.

The SQ6 e-tron retains its dual-motor quattro all-wheel drive powertrain and larger battery.

Its electric motors produce 360kW, rising to 380kW with launch control, while Audi claims a 4.3-second 0-100km/h time.

The SQ6 uses a 100kWh gross/94.9kWh usable battery and can accept DC charging at up to 270kW, with a claimed 10-80 per cent recharge time of 21 minutes.

For MY27 the SQ6 also gains a black exterior styling package as standard, bringing black finishes for the grille, bumper inserts and mirror housings, along with black roof rails on the SUV and anthracite grey Audi badging.

It retains adaptive air suspension, 21-inch Audi Sport wheels, red brake callipers and configurable digital OLED rear lights.

Other standard equipment includes acoustic front glazing, rear privacy glass, massaging front seats, an augmented-reality head-up display and a 705-watt 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system.

Before the MY27 models arrive, Audi is also offering a limited Q6 e-tron sport edition aimed at existing MY26 stock.

Available in SUV and Sportback body styles, it adds 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof and metallic paint and is being offered for $95,900 drive-away.

The special edition uses the same 185kW rear-drive powertrain and 83kWh battery as the regular Q6 e-tron and incoming MY27 model.

There is one notable catch with the deal: Audi’s fine print specifically excludes Western Australia from the $95,900 drive-away offer.

The offer is for private buyers at participating dealers and is available on limited stock.

The revised MY27 Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron models are available to order ahead of Australian deliveries in the first half of 2027.
