He is the last of the Mohicans. So, you know, the heady days, the superstardom days of Rajesh Khanna, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan are gone now because everyone knows what toothbrush you’re using, what brand or toothpaste you like, where you are flying off to, everywhere. There used to be this look, that look, the enigma of a star, of an icon to a certain extent,” Rohit said.He suggested that the constant visibility of celebrities has weakened the sense of intrigue that once surrounded major film stars.

While discussing whether old-school superstardom is still possible, Rohit Roy identified Ranbir Kapoor as his choice for the last true blue superstar. He attributed this largely to the actor’s limited public presence and minimal engagement on social media.“If you ask me, I think the last true blue superstar will be Ranbir Kapoor. His social media presence is very minimal, at least publicly,” Rohit said.The actor also recalled Ranbir’s humorous explanation for maintaining a limited social media presence. According to Rohit, Ranbir had once said that he primarily used his account to “stalk other people,” a response Rohit described as “really cute.”

Rohit went on to praise Ranbir’s professional conduct, describing him as highly disciplined and a talented performer. He noted that audiences rarely get to see the actor outside his professional commitments, which, in his view, has helped preserve his appeal.“Otherwise, when you see him, it’s really rare to get a glimpse of Ranbir. He’s extremely disciplined and a fantastic actor, as we all know. So, I think, in my opinion, he will be, or already is, a superstar who will probably last,” he added.However, Rohit acknowledged that contemporary stars can still generate immense excitement among fans. Citing Ranveer Singh as an example, he said, “If Ranveer Singh shows up anywhere, there’s definitely going to be madness.”

Rohit Roy also referred to legendary Bengali actor Suchitra Sen while explaining how distance from the public can strengthen a star’s image. He suggested that the limited information available about her personal life contributed to her lasting appeal.“If there’s no mystery, that’s what made Suchitra Sen special. Why was she such an enduring star? Because nobody really knew what she was doing,” Rohit said.The actor then recalled visiting the home of actresses Riya Sen and Raima Sen when he was younger. He hoped to catch a glimpse of their grandmother, Suchitra Sen, and remembered being deeply affected when she briefly appeared on the balcony.“She stepped out for a second onto the balcony and I looked over and I was completely blown away. That’s the mystery of a star,” he recalled.

Rohit also questioned whether celebrities can maintain genuine authenticity while remaining constantly connected to their audiences through social media. He observed that fans now expect updates about everything from vacations and professional projects to personal celebrations.According to the actor, this continuous exposure has blurred the line between authentic moments and carefully curated public images.“Authenticity itself has become a performance. Honestly, there’s no real authenticity anymore,” Rohit said.He added, “Actors’ job is to entertain you. I don’t want to tell you how I really feel. So don’t expect that from me. I’ll just show you what you want to see.”
