Princess Isabella of Denmark has revealed a surprising new military name as her family visited the 19-year-old at the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse.
Images shared by the Danish Royal House showed the princess wearing the name “Fredensborg” on her military uniform, after the town where she grew up.
The name follows an old Danish military tradition in which recruits are identified by their hometown or the place where they were raised.
The palace also shared an update on Isabella’s progress at the regiment.
“Princess Isabella is among the first to earn 11 months of military duty and is now well underway with her life as a military officer at the Guards Regiment in Slagelse,” it said.
King Frederik X, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine visited Isabella during the regiment’s family day on Sunday.
The palace said the visit offered the royal family a glimpse into her new life.
They “had the opportunity to see and experience Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella in the new settings and meet the Princess’ co-recruits”.
The Danish Royal House shared images of Isabella looking polished in her military uniform and beret as she reunited with her parents and siblings.
One photo showed Queen Mary embracing her daughter.
Isabella also showed her family around the regiment before taking her place in the front row as King Frederik carried out the parade inspection.
The second child and eldest daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary joined the Guard Hussar Regiment in August.
Her enlistment marked a first for Denmark’s royal family, with Isabella becoming the first female member of the royal family to undertake military service.
Her older brother, Crown Prince Christian, also served with the Guard Hussar Regiment before beginning officer training.
Denmark expanded conscription last year to include women through the same lottery-based system used for men amid growing security concerns across Europe.
Before the reform, women could join the military from age 18, but only voluntarily.
Earlier this year, Isabella won praise for her historic military decision after previously making headlines over a controversial music festival appearance.
The princess also made headlines for a milestone appearance where she paid a stylish tribute to Australia ahead of beginning her military service.
