NEW BERN, N.C. — A new sculpture honoring generations of Black artisans in New Bern will be dedicated later this month.
Tryon Palace will host a ceremony for The Art of Crafting Lives on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Wilson Park in downtown New Bern.
The sculpture recognizes the lives, work and legacies of Black artisans in New Bern from 1770 to 1900.
The outdoor ceremony and ribbon-cutting begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of South Front and Craven streets.
A lunch reception will follow at Mattocks Hall inside the North Carolina History Center at 529 South Front St. Organizers say an RSVP is required for the reception to ensure enough refreshments are available.
