Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw has apologised to the fans in his post-match interview.
“Sorry to the fans. We are incredibly disappointed, about the performance, about the result. Sorry to the fans,” the German said.
So where did it all go wrong?

“I think it was first of all about the duels. I think they won most of the duels – second balls, first balls. They just wanted it more, it looked like. We have to do better,” Thiaw said.
“We can learn quite a lot. If we are not 100 per cent, it’s not enough. With our quality, we have to bring 100 per cent energy from each player. This is the first topic of all because it will never work if the energy and attitude are not 100 per cent.”
And what did manager Matthias Jaissle have to say?
“He said quite the same. He hopes that we don’t have these nights too often. We have to learn from it, and now we have to show character and do much better.”
