The chief of Netflix has finally addressed reports that the Duchess of Sussex is set to join the cast of one of the streamer’s hit shows.
Speaking to news.com.au on the red carpet at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Ted Sarandos weighed in on reports that Meghan would be joining the cast of The Gentlemen.
“I can’t speak to Meghan’s work,” he said, adding: “We’re really excited for her and everything that’s going on.”
It comes just weeks after news.com.au exclusively revealed that Meghan was making a surprise return to acting, with a number of offers being seriously considered – a frontrunner reportedly being the Guy Ritchie-created series.
Meghan’s decision to return to acting, almost a decade after she stepped back from her role in Suits to join then-boyfriend Harry in Britain, came after she first dipped her toe back into the showbiz water late last year with a small cameo as herself in Close Personal Friends.
A source close to the Sussexes previously indicated to news.com.au that the return to her previous line of work was a factor in their recent relocation to the UK.
Meanwhile, Sarandos was just one of the many high-profile Hollywood figures descending on downtown Los Angeles for this year’s Emmys.
The event was hosted by actress Mariska Hargitay for the first time, and she was also the first woman to host the Emmys in 15 years – Glee star Jane Lynch last hosted in 2011.
This year’s ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, where the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) star took to the stage in front of a star-studded crowd.
