Stephen Colbert will appear as a guest on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, September 15, marking his return to late-night television four months after The Late Show With Stephen Colbert wrapped its final episode. Announced by Jimmy Kimmel at the close of his September 10 broadcast, the booking follows the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards and was linked to the ceremonies, Entertainment Weekly reported. The appearance places Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in late-night television competition. The shows face off at this year’s Emmys in several categories, including Outstanding Talk Series. Last year, Kimmel promoted The Late Show on a West Hollywood billboard; on August 25, Colbert posted an Instagram video supporting Kimmel for Outstanding Variety Series.
