The Block 2026 Episode 27 recap: Wyatt can’t take Mat’s ribbing as dishesgate continues

Fire and ice: is the only way to describe this episode. As the fury over Wyatt and Chantel’s refusal to do household chores reached a boiling point, the return of four fan-favourite 2025 contestants served only to fan the flames — before the whole cast was thrown on to a literal rink for a frosty challenge.

“F**king arrogant people,” Jolene fumed. “I understand you want to go to the gym, but even if they just jumped in and washed two pans, or put a couple of things in the fridge …”

Oblivious to the mounting mutiny, Chantel and Wyatt remained blissfully unbothered.

“I don’t do any cooking at all,” Chantel proudly declared, admitting their diet consists purely of microwaved sponsor meals.

Chantel’s breakfast bowl, soon to join the others in the foot well.

“There is a fairy cleaner who comes around, though,” Wyatt added with a smile, apparently unaware that the “fairy” scrubbing his concrete-hard chocolate oats off the breakfast bowl every day was Jolene, Rosco, or Lisa.

Chantel took a similar approach, routinely eating on her drive to site, stowing dirty dishes in her car, and then dumping them — caked in leftover porridge — in the communal sink hours later for others to clean.

Wyatt’s stubbornness extended well beyond domestic duties. When Kinsman delivered his kitchen cabinetry and found no safe space to store it inside, Wyatt simply shrugged and declared it wasn’t his problem to solve. Surprisingly, Kinsman did him a solid anyway, tipping him off those heavy stone installations required special reinforced sheeting instead of standard plasterboard. Because no one else received the memo, the rest of the site had to tear down their freshly hung plasterboards in a mad rush — a headache that, combined with a near-miss traffic scare on the freeway earlier that day, sent an overwhelmed Jolene hurling her hard hat.

The arrival of 2025 Blockheads Sonny, Alicia, Robby, and Mat brought a brief reprieve — at least for some. While Adam instantly bonded with his doppelganger Sonny, Wyatt clashed heavily with Mat, finding him “pushy, disrespectful, and rude”.

Mat made no secret of his disdain for Wyatt and Chantel’s design, loudly mocking their all white palette.

‘You’ve got grey, white, and beige,” Mat laughed.

“Do you like it?” Wyatt asked hopefully.

“No!” Mat smirked.

The banter turned pointed when Mat poked fun at Wyatt’s urge to ditch the party for the gym. “It’s a TV show, doll! You are not going to bed and you are not going to the gym,” Mat announced, to knowing cheers from the rest of the room. Unimpressed by the peer pressure, Wyatt bailed anyway to pump iron, later griping that critics were hypocrites.

“His personality on TV frustrated me. He’s telling me how to act … If it’s OK for him to be rude, I don’t see why it’s not OK for me to go and work out.”

Wyatt even attempted to compare his workout regime to pregnant Lisa taking a quick power nap — conveniently ignoring the fact that she was resting after cleaning up his dishes.

The heat shifted to ice for this week’s challenge, inspired by ice skater Mat and soccer enthusiast Robby. The teams were suited up in giant Zorb balls for a chaotic game of ice soccer, which ultimately boiled down to a high-stakes penalty shootout between Adam and Wyatt. To his utter dismay, Wyatt missed, handing the $10,000 cash prize directly to Adam and Jolene.

Back on site, Tayla struck again. In a scene reminiscent of her constantly evolving, poorly communicated fireplace debacle, she unveiled a new “game-changing” vision: a backlit splashback. The catch? She hadn’t taken a single practical step to realise it, leaving Rick desperately scrambling to build her scatty idea while Tayla herself went for a joy ride, singing along to Tina Turner.

“I don’t think there’s too much common sense happening in Rick and Tayla’s world,” the site manager moaned. “I think it’s just Rick trying to keep up with Tayla running around in circles.”
